Sweet pairing of Pondview Winery's VQA Icewine and chocolate will delight your senses
NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE, Ont. (December 12, 2014) — Canada is renowned worldwide for its decadent and delicious Icewines, and leave it to Canadians to devise new and creative ways to enjoy the sweet elixir.
Like in a chocolate shooter cup.
“The Icewine shooter is as unique and tasty as icewine itself,” says Marcel Morgenstern, a sommelier and national sales manager with PondView Estate Winery. “It is an excellent combination of two great flavours. It goes well as an accompaniment with your dessert, or all on its own. In restaurants, it is a new and different way to make your drink and dessert menu stand above the crowd.”
Served in 70% dark Belgian chocolate cup, the idea is to sip and savour the Icewine and then “pop” the chocolate into your mouth. The pairing works magically because the wine is sweeter than the chocolate.
What kind of Icewine you put in the cups depends on the dessert you are serving. If you are serving a Crème Brulee, do an Icewine shooter with a Vidal Icewine. If you are serving dark chocolate-dipped strawberries, fill the shooter with Cabernet Franc Icewine.
If the shooter is your dessert, be adventurous and experiment with different Icewines to find what flavor combination you like best.
“Icewine shooters are incredibly versatile,” says Morgenstern. “Be creative when trying them at home. Pester your server at your favourite restaurant. A 50ml bottle of Icewine and three-pack of chocolate cups makes a great take away gift for the guests at your wedding. Drop into the winery to taste which one is the winner for you: Vidal or Cabernet Franc!”
Chocolate cups are available at the Pondview Winery on Line 2 in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
